First Meal at Kaohsiung Airport|Hot Food Until 01:00

By · Updated

Travelers landing late at night or before dawn usually end up waiting until morning or eating at a convenience store. Kaohsiung is one of the few exceptions in Taiwan. Xiaogang District beside the airport has places trading until one in the morning, and the metro Red Line links Xiaogang, Cianjhen and Yancheng, with plenty of long-standing shops along the way. For anyone on a red-eye who is riding the next day, a hot meal makes a real difference. This guide covers two places that work and their hours. Data checked on Google Maps, 8 August 2026.

Food and hours near Kaohsiung Airport

Kaohsiung International Airport sits in Xiaogang District. On the metro Red Line, Kaohsiung International Airport station (R4) is next to Xiaogang station, and the line runs north through Cianjhen to Yancheng.

This is not a tourist food district, and there is less choice than in Taipei or on the Taichung coast. Places still open late at night are what other airports lack. For a cyclist arriving on an evening or red-eye flight, that is the part that gets used.

This guide is about the first meal after landing. Most people stepping off a plane have not exercised, so something digestible that will not wreck their sleep suits better than heavy fat and alcohol, particularly with a ride the next day.

Huaxi Braised Pork Rice and Meihe Egg Crepes

Ratings and review counts are a Google Maps snapshot from 8 August 2026 and will change. Both are cash only with no English menu. "Braised pork rice" here means kong bah png, a thick slice of soy-braised pork belly over rice. Taipei’s minced version is a different dish.

Choose by arrival time

Landing from morning to early evening, Huaxi is open 09:30-20:30 every day and is the safest bet. To dodge the 18:00 peak, push the meal to after 19:30.

If you land after 22:00, Huaxi has closed, so Meihe is the one to go to, trading until 01:00. The crepes are generous but easy to digest, which suits a next-day ride better than stir-fry or barbecue.

If you land after 01:00, both are shut and only convenience stores remain near the airport. Arrange food through your accommodation in advance or bring your own, and do not plan on finding any after you land.

If you land at dawn, Huaxi does not open until 09:30 and Meihe has closed. You can head into the city first, or start the day and push the first meal to mid-morning.

What a support vehicle can arrange at Kaohsiung Airport

Moving a bike box and luggage through public transport in the middle of the night is genuinely difficult. The metro has a last train, and a taxi may not physically take a bike box.

The usual arrangement is to drive straight from arrivals to the meal or the accommodation, leaving bike and luggage in the vehicle, then deliver the bike to the start point the following morning. Nobody has to handle equipment at one in the morning.

On the way home, load the luggage first, keep time for a last meal, and go to the terminal afterwards. Carrying a bicycle on the Kaohsiung metro is subject to specific rules, so check before you rely on it.

A restaurant stop is not a standard inclusion but can be requested while planning.

Vegetarian, halal and other dietary limits

Both places are meat-led, and the later it gets the fewer alternatives there are.

For vegetarians, Huaxi serves only braised pork rice, pork chop rice and miso soup, so there is no vegetarian option. Meihe has dozens of crepe fillings and some contain no meat, but check on the spot whether the same griddle is used. Kaohsiung city has plenty of vegetarian restaurants, worth arranging separately.

For halal food, neither holds halal certification, and braised pork rice is plainly pork. Kaohsiung does have halal-certified restaurants in the city; look them up and check their hours in advance, because at night there is effectively no choice at all.

On allergens, the crepes contain egg and gluten, and the composition of the braising liquid varies by shop. Declare any food allergy when you order.

FAQ

If I land late at Kaohsiung, is anything open?

Yes. Meihe Egg Crepes on Jinfu Road in Xiaogang trades until 01:00 every day, about six minutes on foot from Xiaogang metro station. It is one of the few hot meals available near the airport at that hour.

What if I land after 01:00?

Only convenience stores remain near the airport. For flights like that, arrange food through your accommodation in advance or bring your own; do not count on finding something after you land.

Which is best for a daytime arrival?

Huaxi Braised Pork Rice in Cianjhen, open 09:30-20:30 every day, trading for over fifty years, rated 4.2 from 4,091 Google reviews. To avoid the crowd, go outside the peak around 18:00.

I ride tomorrow, so what should the first meal be?

Something digestible. You have just flown and have not exercised, so you do not need heavy fat or alcohol. A crepe or a rice dish with soup suits better than stir-fry or barbecue, and interferes less with sleep.

Can I take a bike on the Kaohsiung metro?

The Kaohsiung metro has specific rules for carrying bicycles; check its official announcements before you travel. At night, also watch the last train, since transferring with a bike box is not easy.
